Brian Eno Encourages Public Help to Get Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The campaign hopes to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Possibility for Support and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a opportunity to support Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The single was laid down in the wake of a major charity concert held in September. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the piece was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The diverse array of performers contributing to Lullaby encompasses a group of acclaimed names from the scene. All were part of the September show, which reportedly raised a considerable total for relief efforts.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was produced by a trio of producers and composers. The track features a combination of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The team running the project have emphasized that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These donations will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a representative explained. “We aim for as much as possible. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The reality in the area was described as its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of buildings said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a few million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is above all making this cause better known and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The song is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made ready to watch on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
