Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup Versus Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their initial championship series since 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Behind 3-1, Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh, propelling the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series victory in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm just so happy for everyone here, the city, the nation," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

George Springer has now slugged 23 total October home runs, ranking him third all-time after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine another person in the world that I'd choose in that spot besides George Springer with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the early in the series, remain the sole team yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Wilson stated "without a doubt that it hurts" after his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts this season.

"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we ended up on the losing end of the series," he continued.

Toronto's team secured the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on Friday.
