Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
