Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss

Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his position following a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the team's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from management,” the coach commented.

“It would be great to change things and secure a win obviously but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “During our regular discussions I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Familiar Problems and Player Reaction

The manager highlighted familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.

“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase of this nature with performances so bad.”

He stated, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we will always battle.”

“We’re going to try to help the side return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”

“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
